How to Look After Your Mattress (and Make It Last)
Share
A good mattress is an investment. A few simple habits will keep it comfortable, hygienic and supportive for many years.
1. Rotate it regularly
Rotate your mattress head-to-toe every 2 weeks for the first 3 months, then every 3 months after that. This helps the comfort layers settle evenly. Most modern mattresses, including all Noxsi mattresses, are non-turn, so rotate them but don't flip them.
2. Use a mattress protector
A breathable, washable protector keeps out sweat, spills and dust, and is the easiest way to keep your mattress fresh. It's also usually a condition of mattress warranties and comfort exchanges.
3. Let it breathe
When your mattress arrives, remove the wrapping and let it air for a few hours. A slight new-product smell is normal and fades quickly. Once a week, pull the covers back for an hour in the morning to let moisture escape.
4. Clean spills straight away
Blot (don't rub) with a clean cloth. Spot clean with a little mild detergent and cold water, and never soak the mattress. Let it dry completely before making the bed.
5. Use the right base
Use a solid platform, a sprung divan or a slatted base with gaps of no more than 7 cm. Wide gaps or a sagging base can damage the springs and aren't covered by most warranties.
6. Expect a little settlement
It's normal for the comfort layers to settle by 2-3 cm in the first few months. This is the fillings shaping to you, not a fault. Regular rotation keeps it even.
7. Don't stand or jump on it
Concentrated weight can damage springs and comfort layers. Tell the kids!
When to replace a mattress
Most mattresses last 8-10 years. If you wake up stiff, can feel springs, or sleep better elsewhere, it may be time for a new one. Every Noxsi mattress is backed by a 10 year warranty.
